My med school is just a stone's throw away from Malacanang Palace and I've been hearing about this great place called Casa Roces. I never dared to set foot in it because I heard that it was expensive. However, due to a surge of stress hormones caused by the graduation pictorial last October 24, Ice, Tope and I decided to eat out and try food at this place.
Then again, I don't have a decent camera with me so the pictures I borrowed are properly tagged with respect to their owners.

The house in itself is historical, having survived the World War II and a lot of typhoons. Just a glimpse at the entrance is enough to take you back in time. I love the portraits and decor in the lobby, especially this one above the piano:

It's somewhat creepy in a ghostly sort of way but just think that it's like an affirmation of the old couple's portrait at the left side of the photo.
The restaurant is aptly named Kape Chino, as a tribute to the late Don Chino Roces.
The ambiance of this places makes you feel that you're just at lola's house and that you're going to eat one of her culinary masterpieces. The delectable smell of the food wafts through the room as it is served to you.

The staff is very attentive and courteous as they take your order and serve your food. In a stroke of hunger, I wasn't able to take photos of our food. But here's what we ordered:
- Ice - Fettuccine with Blue Cheese and Roasted Mushrooms (one of the best sellers)
- Tope - Lengua in Mushroom Cognac Sauce
- Me - Fideos with Spanish Chorizo ala Diablo
The servings are huge so there's enough for everyone to share. We all agreed that each dish has a distinct flavor that is uniquely Kape Chino's own. I liked the tenderness of the lengua, the hint of blue cheese and the prominent flavor of the chorizo on our respective dishes.
I personally liked the Casa Sangria. It tastes like red wine mixed with lemon juice and chopped fruits. And to top it all off, we tried the Malacanang Frozen Souffle which, by the way is superb because of the nuttiness provided by the chopped pistachios and the zing of lemon in every bite.

Since this was done on a whim, we haven't explored the place properly so I'd come back to try more of their culinary offerings and a proper look around the vicinity of the property.
