I said that I wanted to travel, so I did. Ladies and gentlemen, here is the culmination of a few months worth of drama. HAHAHA.
I stayed at Rambuttri-House, a guest house in Rambuttri Road, a street that's a few minutes walk from the wildly popular Khao San Road. I arrived at Bangkok at around midnight so there was nothing much to see, except the nightlife. Given the fact that our flight was delayed, I opted to rest because there would be a walkathon in the morning as we would be visiting the Grand Palace complex and the surrounding wat (temples) in the area.
Reading up on the places to visit is a must so you can appreciate the place even more and that you will have an idea on the ticket prices, rules, etc. I believe that forewarned is forearmed. I got up early and set off to the Grand Palace, which is about an 8 minute walk from Rambuttri Road. Tickets cost 400 baht. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha is one of the most sacred sites in Thailand so please wear appropriate clothing.
But having low tolerance for extremely large crowds, I did not appreciate the Grand Palace that much due to the slow human traffic secondary to picture-taking. As much as possible, I tried to avoid the general direction where people are going. Despite that, I have to admit that the structures are impressive and breath-taking.
So majestic...so much wow! |
The sun unleashed its wrath when the clock struck noon and other tourists are still arriving in droves so I decided to skip the coin museum within the Grand Palace complex and headed to Wat Pho, which is just behind the complex. Wat Pho is a temple wherein the world's largest reclining Buddha is situated.
The Reclining Buddha of Wat Pho. You cannot take a photo of its entirety in the front because it is that big. |
Tickets cost 100 baht and it includes a complimentary ice cold bottle of water. Trust me, you'll need it.
I still have a lot of photos to share but I'm too lazy to edit and upload. Hrhr.
After exploring Wat Pho, I decided to forgo temple hopping and just explore MBK since I'm slated to go to Ayutthaya the next day. After all the walking and the ridiculous heat, you'd be famished so I settled for the Food Island of MBK, which is the counterpart of our local malls' food court.
In my hunger, I forgot what this is called. Haha |
A lot of people were saying that it's really inexpensive in Thailand so it is a must that you shop here. I have to disagree on that. The merchandise is priced similarly as those in Divisoria but the difference lies on the variety of the stocks. It also depends on where you would shop. For example, MBK is a known shopping hub for tourists so expect that it would be expensive. Don't kick yourself when you find out that the 200 baht comfy pants that you got for 150 baht on tawad in MBK could be bought in Khao San for just 120 baht or less.
It was not my goal to shop to my heart's content so I just explored the nooks and crannies of MBK then went back to Rambuttri to prepare myself for delicious Thai food and explore Khao San Road. Didn't party that much in Khao San because a chillax na inuman is what I'm looking for. Haha.

Day 1 done. Made me realize that I'm seriously getting old because of the personal choices I make.
